Confirmation Class of 2019

Rev. Jonathan Ruehs speaks about CS Lewis and the Trinity on January 10th at 9:15 am
The doctrine of the Trinity is a head scratcher. Many Christians are taught that this is a "mystery" that they just have to intellectually believe is true, but then are left wondering how this important teaching in the Bible relates to their daily Christian faith. C.S. Lewis in his foundational work, Mere Christianity, talks about the importance of understanding the Trinity, intellectually, but also how this important Christian teaching impacts our spiritual life. On Sunday, January 10 during the Sunday School hour, Rev. Jonathan Ruehs, (assistant professor of theology at Concordia University and assisting pastor at Light of Christ) will be discussing how Lewis intellectually conceptualized the Trinity, and how his intellectual model directly impacts the nature of our Christian spirituality. Please join us for this interactive discussion.
This event is open to all Adults and High School Students

Confirmation (Grades 5-8th)
Confirmation is a public rite of the Church preceded by a two year period of instruction designed to help baptized Christians identify with the life and mission of the Christian community. Note: Prior to admission to the Holy Communion, it is necessary to be instructed in the Christian faith (1 Cor. 11:28). The rite of confirmation provides an opportunity for the individual Christian, relying on God's promise given in Holy Baptism, to make a personal public confession of the faith and a lifelong pledge of fidelity to Christ. (An Explanation of Luther's Small Catechism)
Our program involves parents in the process. Martin Luther wrote the Small Catechism as a way for “the head of the family should teach them in a simple way to his household.” We as the church would like to partner with families to teach the basics of Christianity. We do this through engaging curriculum, music, games, skits, homework and memorization. We look at Confirmation as a stepping stone in a child’s faith walk and not a graduation to get through.
