December 13th at 9:15 am
Speaker: DCE Student Courtney Small
Courtney will be doing a parent & youth workshop on social media. It will be a guide to parenting in the digital age. The presentation will revolve around information offered in the movie “The Social Dilemma”. It will be a brief lecture followed by a question and answer forum. This event is open to Middle and High School Families.

Dr. Glenn Flugge speaks about Mere Christianity on December 20th at 9:15 am
He will use C. S. Lewis' Moral Argument for God's Existence as an example of Natural Knowledge. He uses reactions to Ned Stark's death in Game of Thrones to help students understand that (almost) all movies, shows, books, etc. only "work" because there is a universal standard of right and wrong that the heros are following and the villains are breaking. Then he will get into Lewis' moral argument. I think it's a powerful argument, but even more powerful for me is the kind of God it leads us to: NOT a "soft-soap" God (only a God of LAW). This sets us up, then, to search for a different source for information about God (Supernatural Knowledge)...ultimately, we settle on the Bible because of the historical reality of the resurrection.
This event is open to Middle and High School Families.
**All three of these events can be viewed at home if needed.  Please let me know if you would like this option.

Confirmation (Grades 5-8th)

Confirmation is a public rite of the Church preceded by a two year period of instruction designed to help baptized Christians identify with the life and mission of the Christian community. Note: Prior to admission to the Holy Communion, it is necessary to be instructed in the Christian faith (1 Cor. 11:28). The rite of confirmation provides an opportunity for the individual Christian, relying on God's promise given in Holy Baptism, to make a personal public confession of the faith and a lifelong pledge of fidelity to Christ.  (An Explanation of Luther's Small Catechism)

Our program involves parents in the process.  Martin Luther wrote the Small Catechism as a way for “the head of the family should teach them in a simple way to his household.”  We as the church would like to partner with families to teach the basics of Christianity.   We do this through engaging curriculum, music, games, skits, homework and memorization.  We look at Confirmation as a stepping stone in a child’s faith walk and not a graduation to get through.  If you would like more info on Confirmation, please contact our Director of Christian Education (DCE) Noël Fairchild at This email address is being protected from spambots. **Our next class will begin Fall of 2021.
