QUESTION AND ANSWERS
Genesis 3:8
Question about Genesis 3:8 - "And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. " - how could God walk??
Genesis 3:8: Be ready for your mind to explode. When you read about God (usually referred to as LORD) meeting people, we believe this is Jesus. When God takes human form, He does so as Jesus. Is it possible that God took the form of a different human- yes. However, we know for certain that Jesus is God in the flesh so this makes the most sense. Here are some other places we read about this preincarnation of Jesus:
Genesis 18:1-3: And the LORD appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat at the door of his tent in the heat of the day. 2 He lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing in front of him. When he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them and bowed himself to the earth 3 and said, “O Lord, if I have found favor in your sight, do not pass by your servant.
Joshua 5:13-15: When Joshua was by Jericho, he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man was standing before him with his drawn sword in his hand. And Joshua went to him and said to him, “Are you for us, or for our adversaries?” 14 And he said, “No; but I am the commander of the army of the LORD. Now I have come.” And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped and said to him, “What does my lord say to his servant?” 15 And the commander of the LORD’s army said to Joshua, “Take off your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.
Notice how in Joshua- the ‘man’ tells him to take off his shoes because where he is standing is holy. It was the same thing God, through the burning bush, said to Moses in Exodus 3.
Genesis 3:22
In verse 22, what does He mean "man has become like one of us" - who's the one of us?
For Genesis 3:22: Is all about the Trinity. In Genesis 1:1, We read the God created the heavens and the earth. What we don’t see in English is that the Hebrew word used of God (Elohim) is plural. It is used through Gen 1 and many other places in scripture. When you drop down to Genesis 3:22- The Lord God said… (Lord is Yahweh in Hebrew and harkens back to God’s name that He told Moses in Exodus 3 at the Burning Bush and God is Elohim). When it says 'one of us'- He is talking about the Trinity. God is saying- man is like 'one of us' in that they now know evil as well. Adam and Eve had only known good. Evil was not known by them. God certainly knew about evil. Through the disobedience of Adam and Eve, they now knew what evil was- just like God.
